Fitness Matters

The biggest hurdle of getting into shape is making fitness part of your daily schedule. During chemotherapy or radiation, having the energy or the desire to exercise may be hard, but any amount of activity could possibly help your side effects. Consult with your doctor to see what levels of exercise he recommends for your situation. You may only be able to do limited activities during treatment, but when your treatment is done, you should be able to develop a program that will keep you healthy and reduce your risk of recurrence.

You can design your own program or you may benefit from hiring or consulting with an exercise specialist. You may prefer to go online to find some exercise guidelines or seek out an athletic trainer or exercise physiologist. A licensed Physical Therapist may also be of benefit if you have any post-surgical issues or residual pain or injuries. Your physician can assist you in making the right healthcare decision for your exercise needs.

Whether you have a sedentary lifestyle or you are an Olympic athlete, make the decision to get fit now or get back in your groove. Set your goals, adjust your schedule to include your activity or workouts and get going!
